Hi there!

I was just curious if anyone has read any books on metaphysical topics recently that they found extremely informative/original/eye-opening/etc.

Recently I read "Drawing Down the Moon" by Margot Adler (I know it's a Pagan/Wiccan "fundamental" read-- shame on me for not reading it long ago!!) and I found it so fascinating and jam-packed with amazing concepts, stories, people, and beliefs. I also read Starhawk's "Spiral Dance" and really enjoyed learning the history of Goddess worship, although a lot of the info in the book is out-of-date and has since changed or been verified.

Someone has recommended "The 21 Lessons of Merlyn" to me and I plan to get to that very soon. What is everybody else reading?

One of the best ever books on this is for me, the Earthsea saga, by Ursula K. Le Guin: not, incidentally, her other books, but that particular novel sequence is in my top 5. Tremendous symbolic fantasy fiction.

Then there is, A Treasury of Traditional Wisdom, edited by Whitall N. Perry not now in print I fear, but published by Allen and Unwin, 1971)

Mister God This is Anna

Anything by Ken Wilber or more or less anything by C G Jung.

The Tao Te Ching.

There you go, my top 5, or so.

Happy reading journeys x

or ... the Book of the Self: ie, Your own book ..... xx

There are so many to choose from. I like the channeled information books. I really like Seth, a channeled non physical entity who spoke through Jane Roberts. His first book was "The Seth Material". The more current work by Esther Hicks who channels an entity named Abraham. There are many who channel, my wife being one of them. It is hard to believe until you actually hear it for yourself. I also like Eckhart Tolle "The Power of Now".

I love the Tao Te Ching-- #44 (incidentally!) is my favorite... one of the translations of it (I forget which version) translates one of the verses as: "When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you."

And I have read one of the Esther & Jerry Hicks books-- but I forget which one!

I'll definitely have to check out the Earthsea books (I've heard a lot of good things) and more channelled material.

Dear Shoshanna

"Only in darkness the light

only in silence, the word

Bright the hawk's flight against the empty sky"

Ursula Le Guin, Wizard of Earthsea

books packed away

Also, ah ... this is what I forgot, Illusions, by Richard Bach ... or the latest 'cull' from that, 'A Messiah's Handbook' ... I really don't know how Bach did that, to create so many 'real' characters' that are not real .. ? Maybe ..

But the BEST of ALL time, is

The Complete Works of Shakespeare; one of the metaphysicians .... though his works are better seen in play form, than read, except his sonnets, which more or less pass muster, as in,

"Shall I compare thee to a summer's day

Thou art more lovely and more temperate

Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May

.. " ... sorry, lost the memory vibe and dinner calls ... I would invite Thee to check It out

'Night x

Metaphysics Proper:

Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, very eye and mind opening.

The Virtue of Selfishness by Ayn Rand, helps to understand Atlas Shrugged.

Anthem by Ayn Rand

The Universal One by Walter Russell, I have issues with his "oneness languaging" but an excellent read.

Human Action by Ludwig Von Mises, A treatise on economics and the failure of socialism and communism.

The Man and Woman Relationship: A New Center for the Universe.

Time Line Therapy and the Basis of Personality by Tad James and Wyatt Woodsmall. Easy study.

Caveat: First 6 books are not for the faint of heart and could cause you to check your "metaphysical" premises to the core.

Peace,

'Metaphysics proper' ?

Please AS, as I have demonstrated through academic argument here, Ayn Rand has no place in 'proper' metaphysical discourse.

Not least because, Ayn Rand was an espoused atheist,

I am actually, not indulging in academic debate here, simply seeking to share from the basis of my humble experience.

Let us take from each other what we might and will

Frankly, I am getting worn out with all this:

being spoken down to, etc, by one of our number

I again offer below my personal e-mail address for those who might wish to just keep in touch.

I am too tired with nonsense. If at least it was funny, I would dignify it with the capital as in Nonsense verse. But sadly, it is not so.

On the contrary Paul,

Don't let Ayn Rand's atheism get in the way. She was very quintessentially human spirit oriented
and very disciplined in her metaphysics of the human spirit. She experienced the Russian
revolution, don't forget. She saw the results first hand and it wasn't pretty.

And I paid him such a good compliment on his "Today" post too. That's a shame.

I've done the farewell thing many times myself. Pretty "toxic" at times.

Oh well. This too will pass.

Peace out,

Hello Marty,

When the John Galt line went over the bridge with Dagny Taggart and Hank Rearden that was so ecstatically cool...!

No guilt, no pain...

Peace out,

Uh-oh, didn't mean to start an argument here. Let's all be open-minded.

I was browsing thru Amazon earlier and was wondering what anybody thought of the following:

1. The Greater Key of the Solomon King & The Lesser Key...
2. The Golden Dawn by Israel Regardie
3. Modern Magick: 11 Lessons... by Donald Michael Kraig
4. The Secret Teachings of All Ages by Manly P. Hall
5. Secrets of the Magickal Grimoires: The Classical Texts of Magick Deciphered by Aaron Leitch
6. Three Books of Occult Philosophy (Llewellyn's Sourcebook) by Henry Cornelius Agrippa, et al
7. Gaia: A New Look at Life on Earth by James Lovelock
8. The 4 Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz
9. Anything by Melchizedek
10. Anything by Raymond A. Moody
11. Anything by Edgar Cayce
12. Anything by Jung
13. You Are a Spiritual Being Having a Human Experience and Nothing in This Book Is True, But It's Exactly How Things Are by Bob Frissell
14. The Secret Life of Plants by Peter Tompkins & Christopher Bird
15. The Holographic Universe by Michael Talbot

Has anyone ready any of the above? Love em? Hate em? All opinions are welcome.

Also, here's another question... What does everyone think of Crowley? Is he a must, or is it OK to skip him (since he was, after all, a drug user & a criminal... not that I'm going to judge him as a soul, but.... ya know....)

Sorry Shoshanna, you did not start an argument

ps, Crowley was also a racist and anti-semite. That just about does it for me soul-wise.

Ruiz has been discussed positively before here

I have all of Jung's on my shelf.

Dare not say much more

Ahh! An anti-Semite... didn't know that about Crowley. Seeing as I have Jewish heritage.... now I know I probably won't be comfortable reading his works.... haha

P.S.

(The term "metaphysics proper" is to designate a term used in classical secular philosophy courses verses "new age" metaphysics.)

No offense intended Paul, but doesn't the Crowley and the Jewish clash of interests fit in "harmoniously" with the "new age" oneness concept. (NOT)
I would agree with you that there are distinct differences that do indeed clash and no amount of "limitless oneness" can reconcile the differences
between the two. That which is, is and that which is not, is not. In other words: A does not equal {not A}.

Blessings to you,

Robert

Ahhh ... dearest Irissunflowerpetalblossomsunnybeam indeed thy vibes didst reachest me in the further deeps of the forest deeping, thank you so much for remembering and how could I forget ? Thanks for the calling out as the leaves are falling even around us ..... Did you not see that I had changed my picture from a ring to a nursery (a star nursery in the depths of Orion) where it gets a little cool, but is silently good for chilling out .... as for Oneness and diverse diversity, they merely seek to illumine the many facets of the infinite God-Self, whose face is our own reflection, glimmering and glittering out here in the wildest of the abandoned, never-discovered Cosmos-Multiverse .... aloha ... New Falcon Press vs Falcon Press.....jeez..Israel's books are not that great that there needs to be such a fight over who officially published them.
Shosna.....I have most all of the books you mentioned..even when you do an anything....I have something. Jung is my specialty. And so, I have Freud and Gestalt and Gurdjieff.
When I lost the house, where we had the "official" library, plus massive shelves in the living room, two bedrooms and the dining room, I gave away a lot of books......I am not afforded such space anymore. And, it is to my pride, that at one time, I had more books than the Elkridge Branch of the Howard County Library.
Please excuse me..... my neighbors are engaging in beating.....and based on the crying...I think it is time that it STOPS!

Later,
Marty and Agitated Cats, L, P and Siss.....bye
